Dr Philippas is Professor at the Department of Business Administration in University of Piraeus, with discipline the Financial Management. Specifically, Professor Philippas emphasizes on  Investments, Institutional Investors, Behavioral Finance, Financial Literacy, etc. In the past there was twice member of the Senate of the University of Piraeus. Professor Philippas has numerous publications in almost all Greek Economic Journals and the relative Financial Press. Regularly, he was contributor in two major newspapers; Kathimerini and Kiriakatiki Eleftherotypia.

His academic and professional research is published in prestigious academic journals, such as Review of Development Economics (2016), Research in International Business and Finance (2015 & 2012), Computational Economics (2014), and others. On December, 2016 Prof. Philippas received his latest award for “Highly Cited Research” from the Journal International Review of Financial Analysis in recognition of the contribution to the quality of the journal made by: Herding behavior in REITs: Novel tests and the role of financial crisis. Further, one of his publications entitled: “Estimation of Price Parameters: Bank Stock Price and the Variance Components Model”, (AppliedEconomics, 1988) is included in the collection of the most appreciable articles in the field of Finance. This collection was edited by the Professor R. Brealey (Bibliography of Finance, 1991, MIT Press). He has worked with companies such as E.T.B.A, Allianz, Helvetia, Intertrust, Eurobank, Alpha Bank and the Hellenic Banking Association, giving lectures about Financial Planning, Stock Market Investments Analysis and Mutual Funds.

Currently, he is Scientific Director of the Interamerican Research Centre, member of the ACHMEA Group, a leading international insurer with more than 200 years of experience. From January 2016 he is Member of the Advisory Board at Blue Growth. From 2013 he is Chairman of the Investment Committee of the TEAYFE fund. For two years (2013-2015), Prof. Philippas was appointed as Chairman of the Board and Scientific Director of the Centre of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE). From June 2005 to September 2008 he was member of the European Investment Bank Audit Committee (EIB) and from September 2004 to July 2009 he was member of the Board of Directors of Piraeus Port Authority, with active participation in Cosco investment.
