PROFIT Needs You!

The PROFIT project is moving forward, and we have drafted a questionnaire that will help us understand what the future users need in our platform fostering financial literacy.

This questionnaire has been designed by the University of Glasgow, with input received from the fruitful discussions we had in our first User Day, as well as the contribution of the rest of the Consortium, FEBEA’s members and the User Forum.

This is an excellent chance for everyone to have their say and steer the platform in the right way. You can find the questionnaires in six languages:

  • Slovenian

The window for submitting the replies is Friday, the 1st of July.

We tried to keep the questionnaire as simple as possible: the mandatory questions are marked with a red asterisk and some questions are wider than the GoogleForm and you should keep an eye for a scrollbar that will allow to check the whole range of replies.

Promoting Financial Literacy on NetFutures

Digital single market of the EU is a great opportunity for businesses, but also for the societal actions like financial literacy upgrade. The connected society enabled collective awareness to occur in Europe.

PROFIT must seek attractive ways how to increase the financial literacy of the online nation. This was the main message of our participation to NetFutures conference and exhibition. The consortium had a chance to meet other CAPS projects and talk to the ICT-literate community.

IFIN 2016 Workshop organized by PROFIT

IFIN 2016 – 1st International Workshop on the Internet for Financial Collective Awareness & Intelligence
in conjuction with the 3rd International Conference on Internet Science (INSCI 2016)

IFIN 2016 Workshop

The 1st International Workshop on the Internet for Financial Collective Awareness and Intelligence (IFIN 2016), organized by the PROFIT Project, will take place at Florence, Italy, on 12 September 2016, in conjuction with the 3rd International Conference on Internet Science (INSCI 2016).
IFIN seeks to open a multidisciplinary dialogue on how we could use the Internet to promote financial awareness and capability among citizens. Towards this goal, IFIN workshop will consist of two parts:
  • presentation of related work
  • roundtable interactive discussions with participants

Report from the First User Day

On the 16th of March, only three months after the launch of the PROFIT project, we held the first event in Brussels, in the context of the Global Money Week. At the User Day were present representatives of the Consortium in charge of the implementation of PROFIT, as well as experts in the fields of finance, economics, EU institutions and European networks. Members of the User Forum were also present. The User Forum is a committee of experts that will provide the project with regular feedback and includes representatives of all key stakeholders, as well as high-profile experts in the area.

During the User Day, Consortium members and attendees were able to introduce themselves in order to get to know each other. Some User Forum members had their own brief presentation which touched on similar projects or goals.

Consortium members provided a description of the project, of financial literacy and on the progress that has been made so far. Special attention was devoted to the creation of user cases and scenarios, with the related questionnaires & methodology. This work will feed into the construction of the PROFIT platform.

Afterwards there was a lively discussion involving all attendees, analysing the methodology and the questionnaires. Feedback was provided by everyone and it was agreed that we continue the discussion in the following weeks. Both the User Forum present at the event and the other guests provided useful insight and the plan is to keep all of them informed in the developments of the project.

Highlights from the User Day

The main points of the discussion during the User Day were:

  • Importance of translation of the Platform (and also of the questionnaires and other relevant material to be distributed to users) in local languages, to allow the involvement of all User Groups (elderly);
  • Need to take into consideration language barriers for the involvement of minority groups;
  • Need to differentiate the general approach of the Platform and related incentive mechanism according to target User groups (for example for older/younger people);
  • Need to take in consideration gender differences in the analysis;
  • Regarding the questionnaire, it was discussed if it would be better to consider “Females” as a specific User Group or if it would be more convenient to analyse the gender differences across all User Groups (through a question asking to specify the gender of the respondent);
  • Need to consider possible difficulties by the respondents in understanding specific technical terms (credit score, interest rates,..): need to add a “I don’t know” option in all questions. Need any way to describe possible features of the platform in a familiar way;
  • It was discussed if it would make sense to define a set of questions that can be skipped according to the answer to previous questions, or to add specific questions tailored for specific User groups;
  • Importance to keep the questionnaire short (max 15min for compilation) in order to keep the respondents focused.

This feedback was invaluable and it will help us in the next phases of the project.

PROFIT project activities kicked-off

The consortium meeting held in Bratislava has kicked-off the project activities. The projects starts with specification and functional design.

First objective of PROFIT is to study and specify the requirements of the targeted users with respect to the proposed financial awareness platform, analysing and turning them into specifications. Based on this analysis, it will define and deliver a number of representative use cases and user scenarios to exemplify the novelties of the PROFIT platform. Finally, the incentive mechanisms to encourage users’ participation will be defined as well as the personalised recommendation policies to provide decision support.

A user group has been involved from the very beginning to provide their requirements on the system and define use cases.

PROFIT project started

The PROFIT project aims to develop a platform towards promoting the financial awareness and improving the financial capability of citizens and market participants by:

  • Raising financial awareness and support better decisions by educational activities and specialized services of the project,
  • Creating financial collective knowledge through advanced processing, fusion and credibility evaluation techniques of data extracted from the Internet and data provided by the platform participants,
  • Empowering user participation and interaction through provision of various voting, polling and other users’ interaction tools, as well as use of appropriate incentive and reward mechanisms.

Project will deliver its results in 36 months between January 2016 and December 2018.
